What:::2013 Budget shows Nigeria will Spend N30.5m on Pets and Animals in Aso Rock and N203m on Refreshment

frankly i`d rather believe that this money is being used to fund some secret ops than to believe that the FG really wants to spend 30m on pets in the aso rock. I mean can they be that heartless?

The Presidency on Wednesday asked the Senate to increase the N1, 305, 292, 050 set aside in the 2013 budget for refreshment and meals and other miscellaneous expenses in the State House.

A breakdown of the Miscellaneous sub-head in the Presidential Villa’s budget shows that N203,752,432 was allocated for refreshment and meals; N107,412,768 would be spent on honorarium and sitting allowance while N37, 277,825 will be for publicity and advertisement.

The State House Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbile, who appeared before the Senator Dahiru Kuta-led Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, defended the N14, 715,566,104 budget for next year.

Mr Ogbile said other expenses that were being taken care of in the refreshment and meals vote, which he said include National Economic Council (NEC), Council of State, conferences in the Banquet Hall, Presidential retreats, National Merit Award, Children’s Day as well as hosting of dignitaries.

He also gave a further breakdown of the 2013 State House budget as thus, Medical expenses (N50,308,546); Postage and courier services (N10,035,583); Welfare packages (N195,066,223); Subscription to professional bodies (N4,589,793); and Sporting activities (N32,910,730).

According to the Permanent Secretary, Overtime will gulp, N250,455,589; Feeding of animals including animal supplements for the veterinary clinic (N30,584,144); Summit/ Extra ordinary sessions including the UN, African Union, ECOWAS, etc (N228,112,862); and NYSC, IT, LOCUM, Housemanship and contract staff allowance (N144,788,555).

Mr Ogbile said: “I have taken pains to explain that this money is not just to fund the residence of the President and that of the Vice President. The experience I have had is that this fund is grossly insufficient. It is not even enough.”

The Permanent Secretary noted that “it is also from the budget of N1.305 billion that we take care of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) which holds every Wednesday.”

Jonathan Rates Himself High on Performance

GEJ-OK
when i saw this post early this morning on the guardian i almost could not believe my eyes.
Never in my wildest dream did i think that our dear 'jona' was a man to praise himself

this is what the guardian online posted about him this morning.

THE scathing criticism of his administration notwithstanding, President Goodluck Jonathan has scored his administration high, saying he has delivered on his electoral promises.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe at the weekend in Abuja, the president said that all the promises made to the electorate in 2011 were being fulfilled and stressed that posterity would vindicate him.

He said one of the promises made was electoral reform and that Nigeria should thumb its chest on the issue because the elections that had been conducted under this administration so far, had been adjudged free and fair.

“President Goodluck Jonathan has delivered on his electoral promises.  He promised electoral reforms and he offered himself as an example by conducting the freest election in the history of this country. He told his party that no one should be involved in election malpractice and that he was prepared to pack his things and go home if he lost the election. He repeatedly told everybody that it was not a do or die affair.

“The general elections conducted in the country in 2011 was the best in the history of Nigeria and you can attest that subsequent elections have also been free and fair. The People’s Democratic Party has lost some elections and the president told people not to make issues of it because he is a true democrat. It has been one man, one vote”, Okupe said.

He also mentioned power supply as another area where the Jonathan administration has recorded a success.

“When this administration came on board, power generation was between 1,900 megawatts and 2,000 megawatts and about 10 National Independent Power Projects (NIPP) were moribund. He caused the hydro power stations to increase their output and raised the contribution from the NIPP projects, taking the level of generation to about 4,400 megawatts and efforts are still on to increase by it 1,000 megawatts before December, this year. This shows that the president is delivering on promises,” he added.

Bayelsa State adopts its own Flag, Emblem and Anthem

while the government of bayelsa seem to be of the opinion that the move to establish a state emblem, anthem, and a flag would serve as a unifying force for the people of bayelsa, the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NVF) Mujaheed Asari Dokubo-Dokubo on Monday declared  that President Goodluck Jonathan has failed and has called for the dissolution of the President Goodluck Jonathan government to pave way for the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference where every ethnic nationality will form a new government.

According to him, Nigerians should prepare for another Civil war for which the Northerners would count serious losses.”

The activist who spoke with Journalists during a meeting with youths of the Niger Delta also defended the declaration of secession by Ogoni people.
He said, “In this issue of Boko Haram, the North will lose. We are just waiting; they will push to an extent where we will tell Goodluck Jonathan that you are on your own. But what will happen will be one that will be unimaginable in the history of the world.
“We will cut them (the Northerners) off from the world. We are capable of doing all, there will be no food and they will pay dearly for their actions. This war, as I am talking is no joke. There will be no Army to prosecute. When the war starts, other ethnic groups  like the Yoruba and Igbo will tell the North ‘you are on your own.’  We are staying that nothing must happen to Goodluck Jonathan because if anything happens to him, the world will know.
“The arrogance of Boko Haram is unislamic. The type of bomb they are using is small small pipkin bomb. If we begin throwing bomb, nobody will stay in Abuja. We don’t manufacture bomb but we buy bombs and dynamites. I started armed struggle in the Niger Delta. It is because of Goodluck Jonathan that we at quiet.
“But very soon, we will not be able to guarantee our patience any more. If Ijaw people should retaliate, every household in the North will cry.

A must read: “Nigeria is a country we SHALL NEVER consider to doing business again…” by Sir Richard Branson, Chairman Virgin Atlantic

from JideSaluDiary

The rich international businessman, Richard Branson, has lambasted the crop of leaders we have in Nigeria for their high level greed which, according to him, is killing big brands wishing to do business with the government of the country, for the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
Below is the revelations by Mr. Branson on his experience in Nigeria…
The chairman of  said: “…we have virgin’s ill-fated footsteps by setting up a new airline in Africa in conjunction with  government…the details of the doomed attempts to crack the  market in the 2000s is better imagined…we put …together a very good airline-the first airline in West Africa that was ever IOSA/IATA operational safety audit accredited but unfortunately it got tied down to the politics of the country…we led the airlines for 11 years…
“We fought daily battle against government agents who wanted to daily make fortune from us, politicians who saw the government 49% as a meal to seek for all kinds of favour…watchdogs (regulatory body) that didn’t know what to do and persistently asking for bribes at any point…Nigeria people are generally nice but the politicians are very insane…that may be irony because the people make up the politicians…
“But those politicians are selfish…we did make N3billion for the federal government of Nigeria during the joint venture…realising that the government didn’t bring nothing to the table/partnership except dubious debts by the previous carrier, Nigeria Airways…The joint venture should have been the biggest African carrier by now if the partnership was allowed to grow, but the politicians  it…Nigeria is a country we SHALL NEVER consider to doing business again..”

Governor Oshiomhole Elected For Second Term + Details of Election Result

Gov. Oshiomhole
Edo State erupted in wild jubilation on Sunday after Governor Adams Oshiomhole was declared elected for a second term by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In the state capital, the announcement of Oshiomhole, who ran on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, as the winner of Saturday's governorship poll led to wild jubilation.
In the sedate GRA area, gunshots went off in the air, signalling the start of a wild celebration.

At the ACN secretariat on Airport Road, jubilant crowds waving brooms spilled on to the road, causing a gridlock.
The happy crowds sang Oshiomhole's praises while motorists were waved to a stop as the people sang and danced.
Traffic came to a standstill until about four mobile policemen arrived at the scene to restore order.
Opposite the ACN secretariat was a hotel adorned with Airhavbere's campaign posters. Two young men detaching themselves from the crowd went over to the wire fence of the hotel and began pulling down the posters.

About 45 minutes later, a detachment of soldiers in three vans arrived at the hotel to prevent possible damage to the property.
It was the same jubilant scene at Ring Road as crowds waving brooms filled the streets, shaking hands with motorists and congratulating each other on ACN's victory.
Residents, mostly youths in Benin City, Edo State capital, have taken to the streets in jubilation for Youths moved round the city on bikes, cars and trucks and stormed the ACN secretariat along Airport Road.

House of Reps Stops NYSC from Posting Corp Members to Crisis States

The house of Representatives today called on the NYSC to suspend henceforth the posting of Corp members to volatile states within the Federation following the outcry yesterday at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.

The house also stated that only corp members who wish to be posted to these crisis prone areas can be posted there based on their own request.

It further requested the NYSC to re-post the current Batch B corp members to other non-volatile states.
Stating it would be unfair to post children to states where indigenes are running away from.
